Greystone House, pictured right, opened in 1979. It was the first group home in New York State for people living with Autism. Our groundbreaking program was the first to provide residential support in a community environment. It was the first time people were taken out of traditional “institutions” and instead offered to live in cozy, welcoming surroundings.
The following year, we opened our second home, Van Kirk House. Greystone now operates 17 homes for adolescents and adults with Autism and other developmental disabilities in three counties: Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster. Our homes are as uplifting as they are functional. We provide round the clock guidance to support each resident’s attainment of the highest level of personal accomplishment, for a life of fulfillment, joy, and satisfaction.
Greystone homes are all Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs). Individuals living in these homes strive for self-sufficiency and meaningful work, and enjoy participating in a variety of community activities.
All of our homes are for adult men and women, including two – Universal IRA, in Dutchess County, and Orchard View IRA, in Ulster County – that are universally designed to accommodate people who use wheelchairs.
