“More than an art exhibit, it was a celebration of creativity and a reminder to see the person beyond the disability.”
Wappingers Falls, NY
Last month, the Boat House in the Village of Wappingers Falls came alive with color, texture, and the joyful energy of community. Greystone Programs hosted its first Expressive Arts Art Show, Expression Beyond Words: The Beauty of Inclusion, celebrating the creativity of the talented artists who participate in our Expressive Arts Program. From bold paintings and intricate mosaics to hand-built sculptures and kinetic mobiles, every piece reflected a unique story, a distinct point of view, and the courage to create. Guests explored the gallery, met artists, and learned how creative expression builds confidence, connection, and belonging for the individuals we support.

Why Expressive Arts Matters
The Expressive Arts Program offers space, structure, and encouragement for individuals with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities to communicate, explore, and grow. Artistic practice supports motor skills, decision making, sensory regulation, and social connection. Most of all, it honors each person’s voice.
Creativity as communication: Many artists share ideas and feelings through texture, color, and movement.
Skills that build independence: Planning a piece, selecting materials, and finishing a work nurtures focus and follow through.
Community connection: Showcasing art invites dialogue, changes perceptions, and expands inclusion.
Event Highlights
A full spectrum of mediums: Paintings that pulsed with color, mosaics that caught the light, sculptures that invited a second look, and mobiles that danced with every breeze.
Artist spotlights: Guests heard about inspiration, process, and the meaning behind selected works.
A welcoming space: Families, caregivers, staff, neighbors, and partners gathered to cheer on the artists and celebrate the power of inclusive arts.

“I am extremely proud of Melissa and want to sincerely thank her for coordinating and organizing our very first Art Show. It was truly an extraordinary event. This was more than just an art exhibit; it was a powerful celebration of creativity and a reminder to see the person beyond the disability. By opening this event to the community, I without a doubt believe we have helped others witness the gifts and talents of the individuals we support in a deeply meaningful way. Melissa and all those who made this event possible, please know your dedication to making this event a reality has left a lasting impact. Everyone was blown away, outstanding work, and until next year, thank you.” — Skip Pryce, CEO
