For Tracilyn Vaticano, the Leap for Autism is more than an event, it is a reflection of leadership, purpose, and a deep commitment to the individuals we support.

As Vice President of Programs and a dedicated leader at Greystone Programs for over 11 years, Tracilyn has played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s impact. What many may not realize is that the Leap for Autism, now one of Greystone’s most recognized and celebrated fundraisers, began with her.

The idea was born from a personal experience. After skydiving with her sister and a friend, Tracilyn found herself in conversation later that day, sharing the experience with others. When people responded with curiosity and excitement, she posed a simple question, would you do it for a good cause? That moment sparked something bigger. Soon after, she brought the idea forward, and within just a few months, the first Leap for Autism was launched.

What started as a bold idea quickly became a defining tradition. Each year since, Tracilyn has taken the leap herself. Not because it is easy, but because she believes in leading by example.

“I don’t think you can ask people to do something that you’re not going to do yourself,” she shares.

Despite having completed more than ten jumps, she is the first to admit that skydiving does not come naturally to her. The fear is real. The moment the plane door opens, her legs still shake.

For Tracilyn, that discomfort carries meaning. It reflects the experiences of the individuals Greystone supports every day, individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities who are often asked to navigate unfamiliar or challenging situations in order to grow.

“We ask people every day to do things they’re not comfortable with,” she explains. “So why can’t I?”

Her “why” is rooted in something even deeper, the impact of what the Leap makes possible. Funds raised through this event support essential programs, but also the meaningful extras that enhance quality of life, art therapy, music therapy, equine therapy, and opportunities that bring joy, growth, and connection.

“I jump out of a plane so that we can provide those experiences,” she says. “It’s the extras that make a difference in people’s lives every single day.”

Over time, Tracilyn has also seen a shift in the broader conversation around autism. What was once centered on awareness is now moving toward acceptance and understanding.

“It’s beyond awareness at this point,” she shares. “It’s about embracing people for who they are and recognizing their strengths.”

That philosophy is at the heart of Greystone’s work, supporting individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities in becoming the best version of themselves, just as we all strive to do.

The Leap for Autism brings that mission to life in a way that is both powerful and joyful. It is a day where staff, families, supporters, and the individuals we support come together in one space, celebrating courage, community, and connection.

“It brings all the facets of Greystone into one place,” Tracilyn says. “It’s creative, it’s different, it’s fun, and it’s truly the best of us.”

For those who have never experienced it, she offers a simple invitation, come and see.

“It’s infectious,” she says. “You come out to watch, and the next thing you know, you want to jump.”

The Leap for Autism is more than a fundraiser. It is a reflection of what is possible when people step outside of their comfort zones in support of something bigger than themselves.

And for Tracilyn, it all starts with one decision, to lead, to show up, and to take the leap.
